Small Business Spotlight: Frisch & Co.

I'm Amber Frisch, the owner and baker behind Frisch & Co., a small-batch bakery based in South Lakeland. What began as a simple New Year's resolution to stop buying sandwich bread from the grocery store quickly turned into a passion for making more of life's every day foods from scratch. Like many, I became frustrated by the long list of questionable ingredients in so many of our household staples. From corn syrup to seed oils, artificial colors and unnecessary added sugars, Frisch & Co. was born out of the search for healthier, gut-friendly alternatives made with real, simple ingredients. That's why everything we make is from scratch in small batches with ingredients you can feel good about. No junk, no shortcuts, just real honest food.

The Hungry Games: Metro Diner

As promised, I said I was going to venture out and try some more places! So, we decided on the recently opened Metro Diner off of S Florida Ave in Lakeland South Center!

We've been craving a restaurant with that good ole fashioned diner feel, and we received it! It always looks crowded, so we went a little before 5pm on a Thursday afternoon. You can choose between all-day breakfast or all-day lunch/dinner options.

I concluded that I would order the Spicy Honey Chicken Biscuit and... OF COURSE, the Biscuits & Sausage Gravy. Now, a lot of joints do NOT get biscuits and gravy right. I'm from Alabama, and I think I should know. In my opinion, they nailed them! (Maybe it was my accent and a mispronunciation of words, but they gave me an extra bowl of gravy too?! I didn't order it, but maybe it comes that way or I look like a man who wants more!)

Oh my goodness! This chicken biscuit was amazing!

All six of us cleaned our plates. Also, the price wasn't bad at all either! It was just around $60 for all of us. I want to give an honorable mention on the service. The waiters and waitresses and hostesses all engaged in conversation like they knew you!
